✧ No charity is due on wealth until a year has passed over it

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ قَالَ: وَيُقَالُ:
إِنِ اسْتَفَادَ مَالًا بَعْدَمَا حَلَّ عَلَى مَالِهِ الزَّكَاةُ، وَإِنْ كَانَ لَمْ يُزَكِّهِ اسْتَأْنَفَ الَّذِي اسْتَفَادَ الْحَوْلَ ". قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: " فَإِذَا كَانَ لِرَجُلٍ مَالٌ قَدْرَ زَكَاةٍ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ مَالُهُ ذَلِكَ فَبَقِيَ مِنْهُ دِرْهَمٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَبَقِيَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْوَقْتِ الَّذِي كَانَ يُزَكِّي فِيهِ شَهْرٌ، ثُمَّ اسْتَفَادَ مَالًا زَكَّى الَّذِي أَفَادَ مِنَ الْمَالِ مَعَ ذَلِكَ الدِّرْهَمِ، فَإِذَا نَفَدَ الْمَالُ، وَلَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ لَمْ يُزَكِّ الَّذِي اسْتَفَادَ إِلَى الْحَوْلِ الَّذِي اسْتَأْنَفَ بِهِ
Translation
✧ If he acquires wealth after zakat has become due on his wealth, and even if he has not paid zakat on it, the newly acquired wealth starts a new year. Sufyan said: "If a man has wealth equal to the zakat threshold, then that wealth is lost and only one dirham remains, and between him and the time he used to pay zakat there is a month, then he acquires wealth, he pays zakat on the newly acquired wealth together with that dirham. But if the wealth is exhausted and nothing remains, he does not pay zakat on the newly acquired wealth until the year that he begins anew."
