عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ يَنَّاقٍ،
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، بَعَثَ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الثَّقَفِيَّ سَاعِيًا، فَرَآهُ بَعْدَ أَيَّامٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: " أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ كَالْغَازِي فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: وَكَيْفَ لِي بِذَلِكَ، وَهُمْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّا نَظْلِمُهُمْ ؟ قَالَ: " يَقُولُونَ مَاذَا ؟ " قَالَ: يَقُولُونَ: أَتُحْسَبُ عَلَيْنَا السَّخْلَةُ ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " احْسِبْهَا، وَلَوْ جَاءَ بِهَا الرَّاعِي يَحْمِلُهَا عَلَى كَفِّهِ، وَقُلْ لَهُمْ: إِنَّا نَدَعُ الْأَكُولَةَ، وَالرُّبَّى، وَالْمَاخِضَ، وَالْفَحْلَ
Translation
✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb sent Sufyān b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Thaqafī as a collector. He saw him after some days in the mosque and said to him: "Are you not pleased to be like a warrior in the path of Allah?" He said: "How can I have that when they claim that we wrong them?" He said: "What do they say?" He said: "They say: Will a newborn lamb be counted against us?" ʿUmar said: "Count it, even if the shepherd brings it carrying it on his palm. And tell them: We leave the fattened animal, the nursing ewe, the pregnant one, and the stallion."
