عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ:
قَالَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّهُ يَمْرَضُ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي كُنَّا نَرَى أَنَّهُ صَالِحٌ فَيُشَدَّدُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ، وَيَمْرَضُ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي مَا كُنَّا نَرَى فِيهِ خَيْرًا فَيُهَوَّنُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ يَبْقَى مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ شَيْءٌ فَيُشَدَّدُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ لِأَنْ يَلْقَى اللهَ لَا ذَنْبَ لَهُ، وَإِنَّ الْمُنَافِقَ تَبْقَى مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ شَيْءٌ فَيُهَوَّنُ عَلَيْهِ لِأَنْ يَلْقَى اللهَ وَلَا حَسَنَةَ لَهُ "
Translation
✧ The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ said: “O Messenger of God, a man whom we used to consider righteous falls ill and is made to suffer at his death, and a man in whom we used to see no good falls ill and is made to have it easy at his death.” The Prophet ﷺ said: “The believer has some of his sins remaining, so he is made to suffer at his death so that he may meet God with no sin; and the hypocrite has some of his good deeds remaining, so it is made easy for him so that he may meet God with no good deed.”
