Translation
✧ He was with Sulayman and Umar b. Abd al-Aziz in the bathhouse. Sulayman was in the inner room, and I and Umar b. Abd al-Aziz were in the second room with no one else with us. He said: He began asking me about my courage, and I told him. Then Umar said to me: 'O Abu Khalid, I will tell you a hadith. One part of it is a secret, and the other is public. As for the secret: I went down into the grave of al-Walid b. Abd al-Malik when they lowered him into his grave. When we took him from his bier and placed him on our hands, he convulsed in his shrouds, so we placed him in his grave. His son said: "My father is alive! My father is alive!" I said: "Your father is not alive, but they experience this in their graves." As for the public: This man has appointed you over Iraq, so fear Allah regarding them, for they have suffered tribulation from al-Hajjaj and suffered from Qutayba b. Muslim.'
