عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ فَجَاءَ عَبَّاسُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، إِنَّ عَقِيلَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَدْ وُضِعَ بِبَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، فَقَالَ: " يَا ابْنَ يَسَارٍ، انْظُرْ أَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ ؟ " فَقَالَ: لَا، فَأَبَى أَنْ يَقُومَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: " انْظُرْ أَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ ؟ " فَنَظَرْتُ فَقُلْتُ: لَا، فَأَبَى أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَذَهَبُوا بِهِ فَصَلَّوْا عَلَيْهِ وَهُمْ يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يَؤُمَّهُمُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، وَابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ حِينَئِذٍ بِمَكَّةَ
Translation
✧ I was in Madinah with Ibn ‘Umar during the fitnah, when ‘Abbas b. Sahl, a man of the Ansar, came and said: “O Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman, ‘Aqil b. Abi Talib has been placed at the mosque gate to be prayed over, and that is after ‘Asr.” He said: “O Ibn Yasar, look: has the sun set?” He said: “No.” So he refused to get up. He said: Then he came back to him and said: “Look: has the sun set?” I looked and said: “No.” So he refused to pray over him. He said: Then they took him away and prayed over him, while they wanted Ibn ‘Umar to lead them; Ibn al-Zubayr was then in Makkah.
