✧ Supplication for the deceased when finished with him

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَلَدِهِمْ،
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَقَفَ عَلَى قَبْرِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ حِينَ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ، فَدَعَا لَهُ، وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، فَمِنْ هُنَالِكَ أُخِذَ ذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ stood over the grave of Saʿd b. Muʿādh when it had been finished, and he supplicated for him and prayed over him. It is from there that this practice was taken.
