✧ Washing the deceased

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ
فِي الْمَيِّتِ يُغَسَّلُ، قَالَ: " يُوضَعُ خِرْقَةٌ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ، وَأُخْرَى عَلَى فَرْجِهِ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُوَضِّئَهُ كَشَفَ الْخِرْقَةَ الَّتِي عَلَى وَجْهِهِ، فَيُوَضِّئُهُ بِالْمَاءِ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ يُغَسِّلُهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ مَرَّتَيْنِ مِنْ رَأْسِهِ إِلَى قَدَمِهِ، يَبْدَأُ بِمَيَامِنِهِ، وَلَا يَكْشِفُ الْخِرْقَةَ الَّتِي عَلَى فَرْجِهِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يَلُفُّ عَلَى يَدِهِ خِرْقَةً إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ فَرْجَهُ، فَيَغْسِلَ مَا تَحْتَ الْخِرْقَةِ الَّتِي عَلَى فَرْجِهِ بِمَاءٍ، وَإِذَا غَسَّلَهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ، غَسَّلَهُ مَرَّةً ثَالِثَةً بِمَاءٍ فِيهِ كَافُورٌ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ كَذَلِكَ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ الْغَاسِلُ اغْتَسَلَ بِالْمَاءِ، شَيْءٌ مِنْ كَافُورٍ وَشَيْءٌ مِنْ سِدْرٍ هُشِّمَ أَوْ وَرَقٍ، يَبْدَأُ بِلِحْيَةِ الْمَيِّتِ قَبْلَ رَأْسِهِ
Translation
✧ Regarding the deceased being washed, he said: "A cloth is placed over his face and another over his private parts. When he wants to perform wudu' on him, he uncovers the cloth on his face and performs wudu' for him with water as he would for prayer. Then he washes him with water and lote tree leaves twice, from his head to his feet, starting with his right side. He does not uncover the cloth on his private parts, but he wraps a cloth around his hand when he wants to wash his private parts, and he washes what is under the cloth on his private parts with water. When he has washed him twice with water and lote tree leaves, he washes him a third time with water containing camphor. The woman is likewise. When the washer finishes, he performs ghusl with water, some camphor, and some crushed lote tree leaves or leaves. He begins with the beard of the deceased before his head."
