✧ Laying down the sword

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ:
سُئِلَ الشَّعْبِيُّ عَنِ السَّيْفِ يُوضَعُ عَلَى بَطْنِ الْمَيِّتِ قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا يُفْعَلُ لِئَلَّا يَنْتَفِخَ، وَلَا يَضُرُّكَ أَفَعَلْتَ أَمْ لَا "، وَسُئِلَ عَنِ الْحِذَاءِ يُدْخَلُ بِهِ الْقَبْرُ قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا يُكْرَهُ كَرَاهِيَةَ الزَّلَقِ
Translation
✧ Al-Sha'bi was asked about a sword being placed on the belly of the deceased. He said: "It is only done to prevent swelling, and it does not harm you whether you do it or not." He was asked about bringing shoes into the grave. He said: "It is only disliked because of the fear of slipping."
