✧ One Who Did Not Hear the Sermon

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: " الْمُؤَذِّنُونَ يَجْلِسُونَ فِي الْمَنَارِ عَلَى الْمَسْجِدِ، وَلَا يَجْلِسُونَ مَعَ النَّاسِ أَيُقَصِّرُونَ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ " قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ: وَسَأَلْتُ مَعْمَرًا عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: يُقَصِّرُونَ
Translation
✧ I said to 'Ata': 'The mu'adhdhins sit in the minaret overlooking the mosque and do not sit with the people; may they shorten [the prayer]?' He said: 'Yes.' 'Abd al-Razzaq said: And I asked Ma'mar about it, and he said: 'They may shorten.'
