✧ Reading Scrolls on Friday; They Used to Read Before the Prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ: إِنْ قُرِئَتِ الصُّحُفُ وَأَنَا عِنْدَ الْمِنْبَرِ أَسْمَعُ قِرَاءَتَهَا، أُسَبِّحُ، وَأُهَلِّلُ، وَأَذْكُرُ اللهَ فِي نَفْسِي، وَأَدْعُو لِأَهْلِي أُسَمِّيهِمْ بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ، وَأَقُولُ: " اللَّهُمَّ اسْتَخْرِجْ لِي مِنْ غَرِيمِي أُسَمِّيهِ بِاسْمِهِ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ

Translation

✧ I said: If the scrolls are read while I am near the pulpit and I hear their recitation, may I glorify Allah, declare His oneness, remember Allah within myself, and supplicate for my family, naming them by their names, and say: ‘O Allah, extract for me from my debtor’ naming him by his name? He said: “Yes.”
