Translation

✧ He spent a night with Salman to observe his diligence in worship. He said: He got up to pray in the last part of the night, but it seemed he did not see what he had expected. He mentioned that to him, and Salman said: "Guard these five prayers, for they are expiations for these wounds as long as the fatal blow is not struck. When people pray the 'Isha' prayer, they depart into three stations: among them is one who has a burden and no reward, among them is one who has a reward and no burden, and among them is one who has neither reward nor burden. As for the one who has a burden and no reward, he is a man who takes advantage of the darkness of the night and people's heedlessness and plunges headlong into sins—that is against him and not for him. As for the one who has a reward and no burden, he is a man who takes advantage of the darkness of the night and people's heedlessness and rises to pray—that is for him and not against him. As for the one who has neither reward nor burden, he is a man who prays and then sleeps—that is neither for him nor against him. Beware of extremism, and adhere to moderation and consistency."
