✧ A Man Prays Witr Then Wakes Up and Wants to Pray

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ:

أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا نَامَ عَلَى وِتْرٍ، ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً إِلَى وِتْرِهِ فَيَشْفَعُ لَهُ، ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ بَعْدُ فِي آخِرِ صَلَاتِهِ " قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَلَمْ يُعْجِبْهُ، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ لَيُوتِرُ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ

Translation

✧ When he slept after praying witr and then got up to pray during the night, he would pray one rak'ah to pair with his witr, making it even, then he would pray witr after that at the end of his prayer. Al-Zuhri said: 'That reached Ibn 'Abbas and he did not like it, and he said: Ibn 'Umar prays witr three times in one night.'
