✧ May a man lead others while sitting

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ:
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ اشْتَكَى، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عُمَرُ وَنَفَرٌ مَعَهُ يَعُودُونَهُ، فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ قَاعِدًا وَهُمْ قِيَامٌ، وَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ بِيَدِهِ أَنِ اجْلِسُوا، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ: إِنَّ فَارِسَ إِنَّمَا تَفَضَّلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ مُلُوكُهُمْ لِأَنَّهُمْ يَجْلِسُونَ وَيُقَامُ لَهُمْ، فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا ذَلِكَ، وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى وَرَائِهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَرْفَعَهُمَا إِلَى عَاتِقِهِ
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ fell ill, and ʿUmar and a group with him entered to visit him. The prayer time came, so he prayed with them sitting while they were standing, and he gestured to them with his hand to sit. When he finished, he said: “The Persians—their kings were given superiority over them because they sit while others stand for them. So do not do that.” And he gestured with his hand behind him without raising them above his shoulders.
