عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ جَابَانَ قَالَ:
بِتُّ عِنْدَ حُجْرٍ الْمَدَرِيِّ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَقَرَأَ فَمَرَّ بِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ ﴾﴿أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ ﴾قَالَ: " بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ، بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ، بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ "، ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ: ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ ﴾﴿أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ ﴾قَالَ: " بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ، بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ، بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ "، ثَلَاثًا قَالَ: ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ ﴾﴿أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْـزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْـزِلُونَ ﴾قَالَ: " بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ، بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ "، ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ﴿أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ ﴾﴿أَأَنْتُمْ أَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِئُونَ ﴾قَالَ: " بَلْ أَنْتَ يَا رَبِّ "، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا
Translation
✧ I spent the night at Hujr al-Madari's. I heard him praying at night. He recited and passed by this verse: “Have you seen that which you emit? Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?” (Q 56:58–59). He said, “Rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord” — three times. Then he recited, “Have you seen that which you cultivate? Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?” (Q 56:63–64). He said, “Rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord” — three times. Then he said, “Have you seen the water that you drink? Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or are We the bringer down?” (Q 56:68–69). He said, “Rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord; rather You, O Lord” — three times. Then he said, “Have you seen the fire that you kindle? Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?” (Q 56:71–72). He said, “Rather You, O Lord” — he said it three times.
