عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّ حُمَيْدَ بْنَ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ قَالَ:
صَلَّى ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ وَرَاءَ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، فَقَرَأَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أُمَّ الْقُرْآنِ، فَلَمَّا خَتَمَهَا، وَقَالَ: ﴿غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ ﴾قَالَ: نَحُجُّ بَيْتَ رَبِّنَا وَنَقْضِيهِ الدَّيْنَ، عَلَى مِثْلِ الْقَطَوَاتِ يَهْوِينَ، قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: ﴿مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَذَا إِلا اخْتِلاقٌ ﴾قَالَ: فَاسْتَأْخَرَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ، حَتَّى تَقَدَّمَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، عَلِمَ أَنَّهُ أَفْقَهُ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: مَا رَأَيْتُ أَعْرَابِيًّا أَفْقَهَ مِنْهُ
Translation
✧ Ibn Mas'ud prayed behind the bedouin, and the bedouin recited the Mother of the Quran. When he finished it and said: {not of those who incurred wrath nor of those who went astray}, he said: We make pilgrimage to the house of our Lord and we pay it the debt, on the like of sandgrouse hurrying down. Ibn Mas'ud said: {We have not heard of this in the latter religion; this is nothing but a fabrication}. He said: The bedouin stepped back until Ibn Mas'ud came forward, knowing that he was more learned than him. Ibn Mas'ud said: I have not seen a bedouin more learned than him.
