✧ Raising the hands in supplication

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ
أَنَّ إِنْسَانًا إِلَى جَنْبِهِ - وَهُمَا مَعَ الْقَاضِي - إِذَا دَعَا الْقَاضِي رَفَعَ الرَّجُلُ يَدَيْهِ، فَغَمَزَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ بِإِصْبَعٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ، ثُمَّ دَعَا الْقَاضِي أُخْرَى، فَنَسِيَ الرَّجُلُ وَرَفَعَ أَيْضًا يَدَهُ، فَغَمَزَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ فَأَشَارَ لَهُ كَذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ A man next to him—while they were with the judge—when the judge supplicated, the man raised his hands. Ibn 'Umar nudged him and gestured to him with a finger toward the ground. Then the judge supplicated another time, and the man forgot and again raised his hand. Ibn 'Umar nudged him and gestured to him in the same way.
