عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، قَدْ أَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ الْوَاجِبُ عَلَى النَّاسِ، قَالَ اللهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ ﷺ: ﴿وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ﴾قُلْتُ: أَفَتَدَعُ ذَلِكَ فِي الْمَكْتُوبَةِ أَبَدًا ؟ قَالَ: " لَا " قُلْتُ: فَبِمَنْ تَبْدَأُ، بِنَفْسِكَ أَمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؟ قَالَ: " بَلْ بِنَفْسِي كَمَا قَالَ اللهُ: ﴿وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ﴾

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: Should I seek forgiveness for the believing men and women? He said: "Yes, the Prophet ﷺ commanded that, for that is obligatory upon the people. God said to His Prophet ﷺ: 'And seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and women' (Q 47:19)." I said: "Do you ever omit that in the prescribed prayer?" He said: "No." I said: "With whom do you begin, yourself or the believers?" He said: "Rather with myself, as God said: 'And seek forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and women.'"
