✧ How the Imam Says When He Intends to Say the Takbir

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُسَوِّي صُفُوفَ النَّاسِ هُوَ بِنَفْسِهِ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ: " قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ قَالَ: فَحَسِبْتُ عَلَى الْأَئِمَّةِ أَنْ يَأْمُرُوا حَرَسَهُمْ بِذَلِكَ مِنْ تَسْوِيَةِ النَّاسِ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " بَلْ يُؤْمَرُونَ فَيَكْفِيهِمْ، إِنَّ النَّاسَ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ قَلِيلٌ، حَدِيثُو عَهْدٍ بِكُفْرٍ، فَكَانُوا يُعَلَّمُونَ ".

Translation

✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: Did the Prophet ﷺ straighten the rows of the people himself, from behind them? He said: “I heard him say: I thought it was incumbent upon the imams to command their guards to do that, straightening the people?” He said: “Yes.” Then he said: “Rather, they are commanded and it suffices them. The people in that time were few, recently out of unbelief, so they were taught.”
