Translation
✧ I asked Tawus, and he said: "What is the matter with the people? No one remains but that a man prays while another man faces him?" He said: "Because of a man who vowed to kiss the forehead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Then Tawus informed the man of that report. Al-Hasan said: "So I asked Tawus about that, and he concealed it from me, saying: 'You only want to say, Tawus told me.'" He said: "So I commanded a man from among the pilgrims, with myself between him and Tawus, and I said to him: 'Ask him: Was there a man who vowed to kiss the forehead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Did he come to prostrate upon his forehead?' He said: 'Come here.' So he came until the man faced the qiblah, and the Prophet ﷺ faced the man. The Prophet ﷺ inclined his head until he made his forehead accessible, and he prostrated upon it, while both of them were facing the qiblah, and neither of them was in prayer." Al-Hasan said: "The one who informed him made a mistake; he said: 'to kiss.' And I knew that the report was only as Tawus said, and I knew that he only disliked—meaning a man's prayer while facing another man—because of that."
