Translation
✧ A man came to Ibn Mas‘ud and said, “I slept through the morning prayer until the sun rose.” ‘Abd Allah said, “Go and perform ablution as best as you can, and pray as best as you can.” Then he repeated the words to him, and he said the same to him. His soul did not leave him from the magnitude of his sin in his own eyes until he said, when those with him had dispersed, “O Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman...” So he repeated the words to him. He said, “Then ‘Abd Allah took his hand and said, “You are only told this so that you do it. Go and perform ablution as best as you can, and pray as best as you can.”
