ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir al-Juhanī used to go out and shoot every day, and he would bring someone along with him. It seemed that he almost grew weary, so he said to him: "Shall I not tell you? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Indeed, Allah admits three people into Paradise through one arrow: its maker who seeks reward in his making of it, and the one who equips with it in the cause of Allah.'" And he said: "Shoot and ride, but that you shoot is better than that you ride." And he said: "Everything with which the son of Adam amuses himself is vain except three: his shooting from his bow, his training of his horse, and his playing with his wife, for these are of the truth." He said: "Then ʿUqbah died, and he had some seventy bows, and with each bow a quiver and arrows, and he bequeathed them for the cause of Allah."
