عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْعَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ،
أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ وَهُوَ مَحْصُورٌ، وَعَلِيٌّ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَقَالَ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَا أَتَحَرَّجُ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَأَنْتَ الْإِمَامُ، قَالَ عُثْمَانُ: إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ أَحْسَنُ مَا عَمِلَ النَّاسُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يُحْسِنُونَ فَأَحْسِنْ مَعَهُمْ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ يُسِيئُونَ فَاجْتَنِبْ إِسَاءَتَهُمْ
Translation
✧ He entered upon Uthman b. Affan while he was besieged, and Ali was leading the people in prayer. He said: O Commander of the Faithful, I am reluctant to pray with these people while you are the imam. Uthman said: Prayer is the best thing people do. When you see people doing good, do good with them; and when you see them doing evil, avoid their evil.
