عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَبَلَغَكَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُقَالُ: حَقٌّ عَلَى الْإِمَامِ أَنْ لَا يَدْعُوَ لِنَفْسِهِ بِشَيْءٍ إِلَّا دَعَا لِمَنْ وَرَاءَهُ بِمِثْلِهِ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قُلْتُ: فَمَا حَقُّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ؟ قَالَ: يَدْعُونَ، وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ، وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ، وَلَا يَخُصُّونَهُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا فِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قُلْتُ: كَيْفَ يَدْعُو ؟ قَالَ: يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنَا، ثُمَّ يَعُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ فَيَبْدَأُ بِهِمْ فَيَخُصُّهُمْ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا، اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنَا هَذِهِ خَاصَّةُ إِيَّاهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَعُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بَعْدُ وَلَا يُسَمِّي مَنْ وَرَاءَهُ إِلَّا كَذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ I said to 'Ata': Has it reached you that it used to be said: It is incumbent upon the imam not to supplicate for himself for anything without supplicating for those behind him with the like of it? He said: Yes. I said: What is his right upon them? He said: They supplicate and seek forgiveness for themselves and for the believing men and women, and they do not single him out for anything except among the believers. I said: How does he supplicate? He said: He says: O Allah, forgive us; O Allah, have mercy on us. Then he includes the believing men and women, so he starts with them and singles them out, saying: O Allah, forgive us; O Allah, have mercy on us. This is specifically for them. Then he includes the believing men and women after that, and he does not name those behind him except in that way.
