✧ Idle talk, raising the voice, and reciting poetry in the mosque

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ:
أَنْشَدَ حَسَّانُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ عُمَرُ فَلَحَظَهُ، فَقَالَ حَسَّانُ: وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أَنْشَدْتُ وَفِيهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ، فَخَشِيَ أَنْ يَرْمِيَهُ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَجَازَ، وَتَرَكَهُ
Translation
✧ Hassan b. Thabit recited poetry in the mosque, and Umar passed by him and gave him a look. Hassan said: "By Allah, I recited poetry in it when there was one better than you in it." Umar feared that he might be referring to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he let it pass and left him alone.
