Translation
✧ Umm Qays bt. Miḥṣan was among the first emigrant women who pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: She informed me that she brought to the Prophet ﷺ a son of hers who had not yet reached the age of eating food, and she had pressed his uvula (for 'udhra). The Prophet ﷺ said: "Why do you press your children's throats with these 'alā'iq (remedies)? Use this Indian wood – meaning costus – for it contains seven cures, one of which is pleurisy." 'Ubayd Allah said: Umm Qays informed me that her son urinated in the lap of the Prophet ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for water and poured it over his urine but did not wash it. Thus the sunnah became sprinkling on the urine of a male child who has not eaten food, while the urine of one who has eaten is washed.
