The concubine (umm walad) of Maysarah, the freedman of Ibn Bādhān, claims that her son is not from Maysarah. He said: She is not to be believed; the child belongs to the bed, and for the adulterer is the stone. He said: And Ibn ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr asked him about the matter of Maysarah, and said: Should you not call the physiognomists (qāfah) for him? He said: "No. The child belongs to the bed, and for the adulterer is the stone." He said: And I say: If a free woman says about her child that he is from a certain man, she is called a liar and is beaten.
