Translation
✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb wrote to Abū ʿUbaydah: “It has reached me that women from among the believing women and the emigrant women enter bathhouses, and with them are women from the People of the Book. Forbid that and prevent it.” Abū ʿUbaydah said while angry, although he was not given to anger or obscenity: “O God, any woman who enters a bathhouse without illness or sickness, intending thereby to whiten her face, blacken her face on the day when faces become white.”
