Translation

✧ Zaynab bt. the Prophet ﷺ was married off in the pre-Islamic era, while Ali and Uthman married in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ used to come to the curtained litter of the daughter whose hand was being sought and say: “So-and-so is asking for the hand of So-and-so.” If she struck the curtain of her litter with her hand, that was a refusal from her, and he would not marry her off. But if she did not strike the curtain of her litter with her hand, the Prophet ﷺ would marry her off, and she would remain silent.
