أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ بُرْدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ، عَنْ غُضَيْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ:

كَتَبَ عَامِلُ عُمَرَ " أَنَّ قِبَلَنَا نَاسٌ يُدْعَوْنَ السَّامِرَةَ يَقْرَأُونَ التَّوْرَاةَ، وَيَسْبِتُونَ السَّبْتَ، وَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْبَعْثِ، فَمَا يَرَى أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي ذَبَائِحِهِمْ ؟ " فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ عُمَرُ: إِنَّهُمْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ، ذَبَائِحُهُمْ ذَبَائِحُ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ

Translation

✧ The governor of Umar wrote: "Before us are people called Samaritans who read the Torah and observe the Sabbath, but do not believe in the resurrection. What does the Commander of the Faithful think about their slaughtered animals?" Umar wrote to him: "They are a sect of the People of the Book; their slaughtered animals are the slaughtered animals of the People of the Book."
