✧ The Christians of the Arabs

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: " نَصَارَى الْعَرَبِ ! قَالَ: " لَا يَنْكِحُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ نِسَاءَهُمْ، وَلَا تُؤْكَلُ ذَبَائِحُهُمْ، وَكَانَ لَا يَرَى يَهُودَ إِلَّا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَطُّ، وَإِذَا سُئِلَ عَنِ النَّصَارَى فَكَذَلِكَ، وَإِذَا سَأَلْتَهُ عَنْ صَدَقَاتِ أَمْوَالِهِمْ، كَيْفَ تُؤْخَذُ ؟ أَنْزَلَهُمْ مَنْزِلَةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ
Translation
✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: "The Christians of the Arabs!" He said: "Muslims do not marry their women, and their slaughtered animals are not eaten. He did not consider Jews to be anyone but the Children of Israel at all, and when asked about the Christians, likewise. And if you ask him about the zakāt of their wealth, how is it taken? He placed them in the position of the People of the Book."
