أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ:
قَالَ لِي ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ، وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ ؟ ثُمَّ بَكَى حَتَّى خَضَبَ دَمْعُهُ الْحَصَا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ، وَمَا يَوْمُ الْخَمِيسِ ؟ قَالَ: يَوْمَ اشْتَدَّ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَعُهُ، قَالَ: ائْتُونِي أَكْتُبْ لَكُمْ كِتَابًا لَا تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا. قَالَ: فَتَنَازَعُوا، وَلَا يَنْبَغِي عِنْدَ نَبِيٍّ تَنَازُعٌ، فَقَالُوا: مَا شَأْنُهُ ؟ أَهَجَرَ ؟ اسْتَفْهِمُوهُ ! فَقَالَ: " دَعُونِي، فَالَّذِي أَنَا فِيهِ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا تَدْعُونِي إِلَيْهِ ! " قَالَ: وَأَوْصَى عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ بِثَلَاثٍ، فَقَالَ: " أَخْرِجُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ مِنْ جَزِيرَةِ الْعَرَبِ، وَأَجِيزُوا الْوَفْدَ بِنَحْوِ مَا كُنْتُ أُجِيزُهُمْ، " قَالَ: فَإِمَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ سَعِيدٌ سَكَتَ عَنِ الثَّالِثَةِ عَمْدًا، وَإِمَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ قَالَهَا فَنَسِيتُهَا
Translation
✧ Ibn Abbas said to me: “Thursday—and what is Thursday?” Then he wept until his tears wet the pebbles. I said: “O Abu al-Abbas, what is Thursday?” He said: “The day on which the Messenger of God's ﷺ illness became severe. He said: ‘Bring me [writing materials] so that I may write for you a document after which you will never go astray.’ They disputed, and it is not proper to dispute in the presence of a prophet. They said: ‘What is wrong with him? Is he delirious? Ask him for clarification.’ He said: ‘Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to.’ And he gave three instructions at his death, saying: ‘Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and honor delegations as I used to honor them.’” He said: “Either Sa'id intentionally omitted the third, or he mentioned it and I forgot it.”
