✧ Expelling the Jews from Medina

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
لَا يَجْتَمِعُ بِأَرْضِ الْعَرَبِ - أَوْ قَالَ: بِأَرْضِ الْحِجَازِ - دِينَانِ. قَالَ: فَفَحَصَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ عُمَرُ، حَتَّى وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ الثَّبَتَ، قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: فَلِذَلِكَ أَجْلَاهُمْ عُمَرُ. قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: وَكَانَ عُمَرُ لَا يَتْرُكُ أَهْلَ الذِّمَّةِ أَنْ يُقِيمُوا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ إِذَا أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَبِيعُوا طَعَامًا، وَتُؤْمَرُ نِسَاءُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى أَنْ يَحْتَجِبْنَ وَيَتَحَلَّيْنَ
Translation
✧ Two religions shall not meet in the land of the Arabs—or he said: in the land of the Hijaz. He said: Umar investigated that until he found clear evidence for it. Al-Zuhri said: For that reason Umar expelled them. Al-Zuhri said: Umar would not allow the protected people to stay in Medina more than three days if they wanted to sell food, and the women of the Jews and Christians were commanded to veil and adorn themselves.
