machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: The hadith of Umm al-Faḍl is a good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) hadith. It has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he recited al-Aʿrāf in the Maghrib prayer, in both rakʿahs. It has also been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he recited al-Ṭūr in the Maghrib prayer. It has been narrated from ʿUmar that he wrote to Abū Mūsā: "Recite the short surahs of the mufaṣṣal in Maghrib." It has been narrated from Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq that he recited the short surahs of the mufaṣṣal in Maghrib. He said: The practice is according to this among the people of knowledge, and Ibn al-Mubārak, Aḥmad and Isḥāq say this. Al-Shāfiʿī said: It was mentioned from Mālik that he disliked reciting the long surahs in the Maghrib prayer, such as al-Ṭūr and al-Mursalāt. Al-Shāfiʿī said: I do not dislike that; rather, I prefer that these surahs be recited in the Maghrib prayer.
