machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: We do not know the hadith of ʿĀʾishah as a raised report (marfūʿ) except through this route. Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl said: Zuhayr b. Muḥammad – the people of Syria narrate objectionable reports (manākīr) from him, while the narration of the people of Iraq from him is more fitting and more sound. Muḥammad said: Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal said: It is as if the Zuhayr b. Muḥammad who was found among them [the Syrians] is not this one who is narrated from in Iraq; it is as if he were another man, whose name they reversed. Abū ʿĪsā said: Some of the people of knowledge have held this view regarding the salutation (taslīm) in prayer. The soundest of the reports from the Prophet ﷺ are of two salutations, and most of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, the Followers and those after them hold to this. A group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ and others held that one salutation suffices in the obligatory prayer. al-Shāfiʿī said: If he wishes he may give one salutation, and if he wishes he may give two salutations.
