machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: This ḥadīth is gharīb (strange). I heard Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl say: ʿUmar b. Hārūn is close in ḥadīth (muqārib al-ḥadīth). I do not know of any ḥadīth of his whose chain has no basis, or he said, which he is alone in narrating, except this ḥadīth: the Prophet ﷺ used to trim his beard from its width and its length. We do not know it except from the ḥadīth of ʿUmar b. Hārūn. And I saw that he had a good opinion of ʿUmar b. Hārūn. Abū ʿĪsā said: I heard Qutaybah say: ʿUmar b. Hārūn was a man of ḥadīth, and he used to say: faith is statement and action. He said: I heard Qutaybah: Wakīʿ b. al-Jarrāḥ narrated to us, from a man, from Thawr b. Yazīd, that the Prophet ﷺ set up the catapult against the people of al-Ṭāʾif. Qutaybah said: I said to Wakīʿ: Who is this? He said: Your companion ʿUmar b. Hārūn.
