✧ Ibn Mas'ud took his hand, and Ibn Mas'ud mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ took his hand and taught him the tashahhud: Greetings are for God, and prayers and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of God and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of God. I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. When you have said that, your prayer is complete; if you wish, stand, and if you wish, remain seated.

machine translationThe correct view regarding this addition, namely "When you have said this, or have completed this, you have completed your prayer; if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to sit, then sit," is that it is from the words of ʿAbdullāh.

machine translationSome of them interpolated it into the hadith from Zuhayr and joined it to the speech of the Prophet ﷺ, while Shabābah separated it from Zuhayr and made it from the words of Ibn Masʿūd, and this is closer to the correct view.
in مسند الطيالسي, p. 273 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationThe ḥāfiẓs held that this is an error, and that it is from the words of Ibn Masʿūd and was interpolated (mudraj) into the hadith, meaning his saying "When you have said this, or have completed this, you have completed your prayer; if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to sit, then sit." Some of the people of knowledge held that this was before the salutation (taslīm) was revealed.

machine translationHe said in his book al-Faṣl lil-Waṣl: The interpolation (mudraj) in the transmission, namely his saying "When you have said that, your prayer is complete," to the end, is not from the speech of the Prophet ﷺ; rather it is the saying of Ibn Masʿūd, interpolated into the hadith. Shabābah b. Sawwār made this clear in his narration from Zuhayr b. Muʿāwiyah, and separated the words of Ibn Masʿūd from the words of the Prophet ﷺ. Likewise ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Thābit b. Thawbān narrated it from al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥurr, separated and clarified. He said: They differed over this statement, whether it is from the words of Ibn Masʿūd or from the saying of the Prophet ﷺ. If its attribution to the Prophet (raf') is authentic, then it indicates that sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ in the tashahhud is not obligatory.

machine translationAl-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥurr narrated it from al-Qāsim b. Mukhaymirah, from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbdullāh. Muḥammad b. ʿAjlān, al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī al-Juʿfī, Zuhayr b. Muʿāwiyah and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Thābit b. Thawbān transmitted it from him. As for Ibn ʿAjlān and Ḥusayn al-Juʿfī, they agreed on its wording. As for Zuhayr, he added to what they reported, at its end, words which some of the narrators from Zuhayr inserted into the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, namely his saying: "When you have finished this, or done this, then you have completed your prayer; if you wish to stand, then stand." Shabābah b. Sawwār narrated it from Zuhayr and separated the wording of the Prophet ﷺ, and said in it, from Zuhayr: Ibn Masʿūd said these words. Likewise Ibn Thawbān narrated it from al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥurr, and he made it clear and separated the words of the Prophet ﷺ from the words of Ibn Masʿūd, and this is the correct view.
