حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ يَجِدُ لَهُنَّ حَلَاوَةَ الْإِيمَانِ تَرْكُ الْمِرَاءِ فِي الْحَقِّ وَالْكَذِبَ فِي الْمُزَاحَةِ وَيَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مَا أَصَابَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيُخْطِئَهُ وَأَنَّ مَا أَخْطَأَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيُصِيبَهُ

Translation

✧ Three qualities: whoever has them will find the sweetness of faith—abandoning disputation in what is true, avoiding lying in jest, and knowing that what befalls him could not have missed him and what misses him could not have befallen him.
