حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَنْصُورًا عَنْ عَامِرٍ قَالَ جَلَسَ شُتَيْرُ بْنُ شَكَلٍ وَمَسْرُوقُ بْنُ الْأَجْدَعِ فَقَالَ شُتَيْرٌ لِمَسْرُوقٍ حَدِّثْ بِمَا
سَمِعْتَ عَبْدَ اللهِ وَأُصَدِّقُكَ أَوْ أُحَدِّثُ وَتُصَدِّقُنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَجْمَعَ آيَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ لِخَيْرٍ وَشَرٍّ آيَةٌ فِي سُورَةِ النَّحْلِ {إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ} قَالَ صَدَقْتَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَكْبَرَ آيَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ فَرَحًا آيَةٌ فِي سُورَةِ الْغُرَفِ {قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا} مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللهِ إِنَّ اللهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنْ شَاءَ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ

✧ You heard Abdullah, and I confirm you—or I narrate and you confirm me. He said: I heard Abdullah say: The most comprehensive verse in the Quran for good and evil is a verse in Surat al-Nahl: {Indeed Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed.} He said: You have spoken the truth. He said: I heard Abdullah say: The greatest verse in the Quran in bringing joy is a verse in Surat al-Ghuraf: {Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair} of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah forgives all sins, if He wills. He said: You have spoken the truth.
