حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي؟ فَقَالَ «قُلِ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَعَافِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي» وَجَمَعَ أَصَابِعَهُ الْأَرْبَعَ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ «فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ دِينَكَ وَدُنْيَاكَ»

Translation

✧ He heard the Messenger of God ﷺ when a man came to him and said, "O Messenger of God, what should I say when I ask my Lord?" He said, "Say: O God, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and provide for me," and he gathered his four fingers except the thumb, "for these gather for you your religion and your worldly life."
