حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ثنا حُمَيْدٌ الْخَيَّاطُ عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ يَحْيَى صَاحِبِ الْقَصَبِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا غَالِبٍ
عَنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ ﷻ {رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ} فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ نَزَلَتْ فِي الْخَوَارِجِ حِينَ رَأَوْا تَجَاوُزَ اللهِ عَنِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَنِ الْأُمَّةِ وَالْجَمَاعَةِ قَالُوا يَا لَيْتَنَا كُنَّا مُسْلِمِينَ

✧ Regarding the saying of Allah, exalted is He: {Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.} He said: Abu Umamah narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he said: "It was revealed concerning the Khawarij when they saw Allah's pardon for the Muslims and for the Ummah and the community; they said: Would that we had been Muslims."
