حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّاسُ إِذَا دَخَلَ الرَّجُلُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَوَجَدَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ سَأَلَ الَّذِي إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فَيُخْبِرُهُ بِمَا فَاتَهُ لِيَقْضِيَ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى أَتَى مُعَاذٌ يَوْمًا فَأَشَارُوا إِلَيْهِ إِنَّكَ قَدْ فَاتَكَ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَأَبَى أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ صَلَّى بَعْدَ مَا فَاتَهُ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَحْسَنَ مُعَاذٌ وَأَنْتُمْ فَافْعَلُوا كَمَا فَعَلَ»

✧ When a man entered the mosque and found the people praying, he would ask the person beside him, who would tell him what he had missed so that he could make it up, then he would stand and pray with them. Then one day Mu‘adh came, and they signaled to him that he had missed such-and-such, but he refused to pray [the remainder with them] and prayed [it] first, then prayed what he had missed after that. This was mentioned to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: “Mu‘adh did well, and you, do as he did.”
