حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَيْرُوتِيُّ ثنا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْأَلْهَانِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْأَلْهَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ
أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْ لَقِيَهُ قَالَ فَمَا عَلِمْتُ أَحَدًا سَبَقَهُ بِالسَّلَامِ إِلَّا يَهُودِيًّا مَرَّةً اخْتَبَأَ لَهُ خَلْفَ أُسْطُوَانَةٍ فَخَرَجَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ وَيْحَكَ يَا يَهُودِيُّ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ؟ قَالَ رَأَيْتُكَ رَجُلًا تُكْثِرُ السَّلَامَ فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ فَضْلٌ فَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ آخُذَ بِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ وَيْحَكَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ اللهَ جَعَلَ السَّلَامَ تَحِيَّةً لِأُمَّتِنَا وَأَمَانًا لِأَهْلِ ذِمَّتِنَا»

✧ He used to greet everyone he met with salam. He said: I do not know of anyone who preceded him in greeting except a Jew who once hid behind a pillar for him, then came out and greeted him. Abu Umamah said to him: "Woe to you, O Jew, what led you to do what you did?" He said: "I saw that you are a man who greets often, so I knew it was a virtue and I wanted to attain it." Abu Umamah said: "Woe to you, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Allah has made salam a greeting for our nation and a protection for the people of our covenant.'"
