حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُتْبَةَ الْكِنْدِيُّ
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ تُوُفِّيَ رَجُلٌ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَ دِينَارَيْنِ دَيْنًا عَلَيْهِ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ وَفَاءٌ فَأَبَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ «صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبَكُمْ» فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ فَقَالَ أَنَا أَقْضِي عَنْهُ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ

✧ He heard Abu Umamah saying that a man died during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and left behind two dinars as debt, and he did not have the means to pay it back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused to offer the funeral prayer for him and said, "Pray for your companion." So Abu Qatadah stood up and said, "I will settle the debt on his behalf." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and offered the funeral prayer for him.
