حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ثنا أَبُو الْأَسْوَدِ النَّضْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ أَنَّ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ صُهَيْبِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ

لَمَّا عُرِضَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَاءُ ثُمَّ الْخَمْرُ ثُمَّ اللَّبَنُ أَخَذَ اللَّبَنَ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ أَصَبْتَ أَخَذْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ وَبِهَا عُذِّبَتْ كُلُّ دَابَّةٍ وَلَوْ أَخَذْتَ الْخَمْرَ غَوَيْتَ وَغَوَتْ أُمَّتُكَ وَكُنْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِ هَذِهِ وَأَشَارَ إِلَى الْوَادِي الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي جَهَنَّمَ فَنَظَرْتُ فِيهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ يَلْتَهِبُ

✧ When water, then wine, then milk were presented to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, he took the milk and said to him, Jibril, "You have chosen the fitrah (natural disposition). With it, every living creature is punished. If you had taken the wine, you would have gone astray and your nation would have also gone astray. And he pointed to the valley known as Hellfire. So I looked into it and saw that it was blazing.
