حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ صَيْفِيٍّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ وَلَدِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ صُهَيْبًا قَالَ

قَدِمْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ تَمْرٌ وَخُبْزٌ فَقَالَ «ادْنُ فَكُلْ» فَأَخَذْتُ آكُلُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ فَقَالَ «أَتَأْكُلُ تَمْرًا وَبِكَ رَمَدٌ؟» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَمُصُّهُ مِنَ النَّاحِيَةِ الْأُخْرَى فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

Translation

✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while there were dates and bread in front of him. He said, "Draw near and eat." I began eating from the dates. He said, "Do you eat dates while you have an eye inflammation?" I said, "O Messenger of God, I suck them from the other side." The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled.
