حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الشَّرِيدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
كُنْتُ رِدْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنْ شِعْرِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ شَيْءٌ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «هِيهِ» فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُ «هِيهِ» فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُ «هِيهِ» وَأُنْشِدُهُ حَتَّى أَنْشَدْتُهُ مِائَةً بَيْتٍ

✧ I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: “Do you have with you anything of the poetry of Umayyah b. Abi al-Salt?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “Go on.” So I recited a verse to him, and he kept saying: “Go on.” I recited a verse to him, and he kept saying: “Go on,” and I kept reciting to him until I had recited one hundred verses.
