حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ثنا سَبْرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

رَأَى أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَحَابَةً فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كُنَّا نَرْجُو أَنْ تُمْطِرَنَا هَذِهِ السَّحَابَةُ فَقَالَ «أُمِرَتْ أَنْ تُمْطِرَ بَلِيلَ» يَعْنِي وَادِيًا يُقَالُ لَهُ بَلِيلُ

Translation

  3. Sabrah b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. al-Rabīʿ b. Sabrah from his father from his grandfather from his father

✧ The companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ saw a cloud and said: “O Messenger of God, we hoped that this cloud would rain on us.” He said: “It has been commanded to rain on Balīl”—meaning a valley called Balīl.
