حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بَيْنَمَا أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ ؓ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ قَالَ

إِذْ غَشِيَتْنِي مِثْلُ السَّحَابَةِ فِيهَا مِثْلُ الْمَصَابِيحِ وَالْمَرْأَةُ نَائِمَةٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي وَهِي حَامِلٌ وَالْفَرَسُ مَرْبُوطٌ فِي الدَّارِ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَنْفِرَ الْفَرَسُ فَتَفْزَعَ الْمَرْأَةُ فَتُلْقِيَ وَلَدَهَا فَانْصَرَفْتُ مِنْ صَلَاتِي فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ أَصْبَحْتُ فَقَالَ «اقْرَأْهُ يَا أُسَيْدُ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ مَلَكٌ اسْتَمَعَ الْقُرْآنَ»

✧ When something like a cloud covered me, in which there were things like lamps, while a woman was sleeping beside me and she was pregnant, and a horse was tied in the house, I feared that the horse would bolt and the woman would be startled and miscarry her child. So I stopped my prayer, and I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ in the morning, and he said: 'Recite it, O Usayd, for that was an angel who listened to the Qur'an.'
