حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ الْعَلَّافُ ثنا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هَارُونَ الْعَبْدِيِّ قَالَ
رَأَيْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ مُمْعَطُ اللِّحْيَةِ فَقُلْتُ تَعْبَثُ بِلِحْيَتِكَ فَقَالَ «لَا هَذَا مَا لَقِيتُ مِنْ ظَلَمَةِ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ دَخَلُوا عَلَيَّ زَمَنَ الْحَرَّةِ فَأَخَذُوا مَا كَانَ فِي الْبَيْتِ مِنْ مَتَاعٍ أَوْ حَرًى ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيَّ طَائِفَةٌ أُخْرَى فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا فِي الْبَيْتِ شَيْئًا فَأَسِفُوا أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا بِغَيْرِ شَيْءٍ» فَقَالَ «أَضْجِعُوا الشَّيْخَ فَأَضْجَعُونِي فَجَعَلَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ يَأْخُذُ مِنْ لِحْيَتِي خُصْلَةً»

✧ I saw Abu Sa'id al-Khudri with his beard plucked out. I said: You are messing with your beard. He said: "No. This is what I suffered from the wrongdoers of the people of Syria. They entered upon me at the time of al-Harrah and took whatever was in the house of goods or chattel. Then another group entered upon me and found nothing in the house, and they disliked to leave without anything." He said: "Lay the old man down." So they laid me down, and each one of them took a tuft of my beard.
