حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْحَجَبِيُّ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنَّا يُقَالُ لَهُ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مَحْمُودٍ مِنْ وَلَدِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَسْلَمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الْأَشْهَلِيِّ

أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَيْفًا مِنْ نَجْرَانَ أَوْ أُهْدِيَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَيْفٌ مِنْ نَجْرَانَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ أَعْطَاهُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَسْلَمَةَ فَقَالَ «جَاهِدْ بِهَذَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَإِذَا اخْتَلَفَتْ أَعْنَاقُ النَّاسِ فَاضْرِبْ بِهِ الْحَجَرَ ثُمَّ ادْخُلْ بَيْتَكَ وَكُنْ حِلْسًا مُلْقًى حَتَّى تَقْتُلَكَ يَدٌ خَاطِئَةٌ أَوْ تَأْتِيَكَ مَنِيَّةٌ قَاضِيَةٌ»

Translation

✧ He gifted to the Prophet ﷺ a sword from Najrān—or a sword from Najrān was gifted to the Prophet ﷺ. When he came to him, he gave it to Muḥammad b. Maslama and said: “Strive with this in the path of God. When the necks of people differ, strike the stone with it, then enter your house and be a cast-off saddlecloth until a stray hand kills you or a decreed death comes to you.”
